Susan G. Komen for the Cure 5K - September 26

My stepmother Helen "Sam" Sachs recently passed away after a brave and arduous two year battle with breast cancer. This will be my first 5K race, and I will run gladly.

Here are a few words from my father that I think are worth sharing again:

This is a difficult time, but it is also a blessing. I have learned skills and am doing things that I never thought possible. As Sam admonishes me to slow down, I thank her for her love and patience. We have made due with the help of Hospice, family, and friends. While there are moments of tears, the are more moments of thanks and joy.

Sam faced her ultimate end with more closure than I would have ever imagined. She feels the love of family, friends and the very good people that she never knew. She has learned to accept her emotions of fear, love, and joy with a perspective that includes thanks for everything she has. It is OK to laugh and to cry because it is human and good to feel.
